The Ride, The Proof, The Glory

Manta5 describes the crossing as a world record and documents the successful ride. Independent New Atlas coverage identifies Manta5 product manager Hayden Reeves as the rider and reports that the 26 km crossing was completed on the first attempt with one fully charged battery.

Rules of the Beast

Must complete a crossing of Cook Strait on a bicycle-style hydrofoil with the rider supported by the bike frame. Pedal-electric assistance is permitted. A safety or documentation boat is allowed, but the hydrofoil bike may not be towed during the crossing.

How This Got the Nod

Official manufacturer documentary and world-record claim corroborated by independent specialist media naming the rider, distance, battery use, and first-attempt completion.
