Most folks just call him Big Dave, and nobody argues with that. He wasn’t born in a cave or hatched from an egg like the other weirdos in the Foiling Freaks lineup; he washed up during a Westport winter swell, a blue, tattooed bundle of stoke with a laugh loud enough to clear the beach. The locals figured he’d lumber off into the dunes, but Dave did the opposite: he locked onto the lineup like it owed him money, watched a clean set stack on the outside, and muttered, “Yep. That one’ll do.” Somewhere along the way, he “borrowed” a bright yellow fisherman’s hat (now his trademark), inked himself with salty swirl tattoos (art… or tide chart), and made hydrofoiling his whole identity—in the best way possible.
Dave’s a three-discipline menace who treats every day as a chance to level up. When the swell lines up, he’s out surf foiling and foil surfing at Westport, hunting that smooth wave foiling glide and the feeling of a perfect foil setup humming beneath him. When it’s calm, he’s still out there ocean foiling, getting his fix on a hydrofoil even when the sea goes quiet. And when a buddy shows up with a rope and questionable judgment, Dave’s all in—wake foiling / wakefoil behind the boat, sometimes sliding into wakesurf foiling and even wake to wave foiling when the conditions and confidence collide. He’ll talk foil wing choices and foil setup tweaks all day, but he’s just as happy handing out wake foil tips to a first-timer, cheering a clean lift, then immediately sending something dumb enough to earn a legendary wipeout; because for Dave, wake foil progression is half skill and half pure laughter.
What makes him Big Dave isn’t just size or fearlessness; it’s that he’s always having the most fun. He swears he can hear the foil “sing” when it’s trimmed right, and if you ask for the secret, he just grins and says, “You’ll know.” His signature move is the Westport Wide-Grin: a committed line, a touch more speed, and that full-tooth smile that says he’s either about to thread the section or become part of the whitewater. He collects “lucky” washers and random hardware like a walking pro shop, shows up early, leaves late, and never admits the water is cold. And yeah, he’ll happily talk wake foil safety, wake foil beginner basics, and the right boat speed for wake foiling, right after you’ve taken at least one lap. His motto says it all: “If it flies, it counts.” If you see a blue monster in a yellow hat grinning through the spray, don’t panic, that’s just Big Dave, turning wake foiling, surf foiling, and everything in between into a story worth sticking on a board, a bottle, or the side of your rig.

Follow these tips when applying stickers: Apply the sticker to a clean, dust-free, oil-free, and moisture-free surface. After application, press the sticker down with a clean cloth to maximize the sticker’s ability to stick to the surface and avoid air bubbles. Make sure that the sticker is applied correctly the first time. With every reapplication, the sticker’s ability to stick will decrease. Apply the sticker to a flat surface only. If applied on items that bend, are round, or in a cylinder form, we can’t guarantee its ability to hold.
