Backstory

Glitch did not set out to become a freefoiler; he did not even know what that was. He acquired his foil through a trade that involved a favor owed and a promise not to ask questions later. What he received was a Beta Freefoil with an absurdly wide wingspan and absolutely no instructions. He carried it to the lake anyway, convinced that exploration usually starts with poor decisions and curiosity.

His first attempt was less riding and more falling. While stepping off the dock, Glitch tripped, landed on his knees, and bounced awkwardly on the board while trying to stand. Instead of stopping, the foil kept going. Each clumsy move somehow fed the glide, and before he understood what was happening, the foil was moving quietly across the calm mountain lake. Panic turned into focus, then into rhythm. He stopped fighting it and kept going.

What began as an accident became a calling. Glitch discovered that freefoiling on flat water rewarded patience and control more than power. Long-distance pump foiling allowed him to explore shorelines, reflections, and silence. Beginners see their own early mistakes in his story. Seasoned foilers recognize the moment when instinct finally replaces overthinking. Glitch never learned the right way first, but he found a way that worked.

Glitch Bluewater's Foiling Discipline

Glitch Bluewater is into Freefoiling - A style of pump foiling with a focus on long-distance exploration characterized by the use of extremely wide and efficient wings. Click the link for more information about the sport.

First Flight

Glitch's first real flight happened by accident and stayed that way for a while. After the knee-first stumble off the dock, the freefoil board kept moving, lifted by a wide wingspan foil that seemed far more forgiving than it looked. What should have been a failed dock start foiling attempt turned into a slow glide across the lake. That moment was his first taste of freefoiling, not as a planned ride but as a discovery that low-speed foil setups could reward persistence over precision. By the time his legs started to shake, he was already farther from the dock than expected and smiling at the realization that he was still flying.

Personality

Glitch is patient to a fault and stubborn when it counts. He approaches pump foiling the way others approach hiking trails, steady, curious, and willing to turn back only when necessary. He does not rush progression and rarely compares himself to others. In flat water foiling, he thrives on repetition and quiet refinement, trusting that time on the lake will teach him more than advice shouted from shore. His calm presence makes him approachable to beginners and quietly impressive to experienced riders.

Favorite Conditions

Glitch prefers glassy mornings and calm afternoons when lake foiling feels endless. Flat water, light air, and long uninterrupted stretches give him space to settle into rhythm. These are the conditions where endurance foiling makes sense and distance feels achievable rather than forced. He favors water so smooth that the foil hums rather than slaps, and views a long glide as more satisfying than any short burst of speed.

Glitch's Code

Trust the glide before forcing the pump. Freefoiling rewards efficiency and balance more than strength. A wide-winged foil should be allowed to work rather than rushed. Every long-distance pump foiling session should end with energy left in reserve and lessons gained along the way. If something feels awkward but stable, it is worth exploring rather than correcting too quickly.

Beginner Tips

Start slow and stay close to a launch spot. Flat water foiling is ideal for learning rhythm without distractions. Use a low-speed foil that lifts early, giving you time to react. Do not worry about perfect dock-start foiling techniques at first; consistency matters more. Focus on smooth motion over power and remember that endurance foiling is built one quiet glide at a time.

Preferred Ride

A freefoil with an extra-wide wingspan foil, built for efficiency, glide, and distance over speed.

What Makes Him Glitch

Glitch is curious, stubborn, and quietly fearless. He does not chase tricks or attention. He chases distance and stillness. He believes every lake has corners most people never see, and that the best discoveries happen when you stop trying too hard. His fur is rarely dry, and his foil always carries a few scratches from mistimed shallow dismounts.

Signature Move

The Double Knee Drop Launch: An unconventional dock start where the rider intentionally drops to both knees on the board, initiates gentle pump strokes, and flies after the foil achieves stable lift. The move works by minimizing initial balance demands while allowing the wide-wing foil to generate lift at low speed, making it ideal for flat-water freefoiling.

Fun Facts

  • Still cannot explain how the first ride worked, only that it did
  • Prefers calm alpine lakes with no boat traffic
  • Measures success in distance, not speed
  • Names his foils but does not know their specifications
  • Believes awkward starts build better instincts
  • Has paddled home many times and learned a lot from it

Glitch's Motto

“If it keeps flying, trust it and see where it leads.”
