Vraxen "Vrax" Ashwing
Backstory
Vraxen “Vrax” Ashwing didn't get into wing foiling the normal way; he showed up already equipped. Born with a wingspan that could shame a traditional handheld wing, and a grin that says he has definitely broken a few laws of nature, he grew up watching other monsters wrestle canopies, battle gusts, and do the classic downwind-of-shame paddle back.
He tried a real wing once, borrowed for “research,” and immediately decided it was adorable. Like training wheels. Like putting a spoiler on a dragon. From that day on, Vraxen became the only rider in the crew who could honestly say: “I didn't buy a wing. I am the wing.”
He rides when the sky looks dramatic enough to deserve him: dusk light turning the ocean copper, storm-edge winds that come in spicy, volcanic coastlines where the air feels warm, angry, and fast. He calls it thermal seasoning. Everyone else calls it; maybe don't. Vrax goes anyway.

First Flight
Vrax's first wing foiling flight was less of a first and more of a reveal. The crew expected the usual story: borrowed wing, awkward first waterstart, a few falls, then a shaky run. Vraxen showed up with a compact wing foil board tucked under one arm and his demon wings folded like he was keeping a secret.
He walked to the waterline, watched the gusts skitter across the surface, and smiled as the ocean had just agreed to a deal. Then he opened his wings.
The wind hit his span, and the power came on instantly, smooth and controlled, like a perfectly tuned wing foil setup that never needed handles. He leaned forward, the foil caught, and the board rose into a clean foil glide before anyone had time to shout advice. For a moment, it looked like hydrofoil winging had been invented just for him.
He did a gentle pump, more of a wingbeat than foil pumping, and the board surged. Not frantic, not forced, just a calm acceleration that made the rest of the crew stare. Vrax carved once, held height, and drifted upwind like it was the most normal thing in the world. The only giveaway that it was his first real session was the grin. It was too big to hide.
Personality
Vraxen is in mischief with manners. He is confident, but not loud. He does not brag because he does not need to. His whole vibe says, I know what I can do, and I am going to do it anyway.
He loves pushing limits, but he respects effort more than talent. He will roast you for excuses, then quietly help you fix your stance and send you back out. He is competitive in a playful way, like the ocean is his training partner, and everyone else is invited to join.
Vrax also has a strange generosity in the lineup. If he sees a wing foil beginner struggling, he might circle close, offer one small tip, and then disappear upwind before you can thank him. It is not that he is shy. It is that he likes leaving an impression.
Favorite Conditions
Vrax thrives in wind that feels alive. Not violent, but spicy and shifting, the kind that rewards good timing and punishes sloppy habits. He loves the edge-of-storm breeze that comes in clean pulses, where wing foil speed builds fast, and the chop turns into a moving runway.
He also enjoys light wind wing foiling days, but only when there is enough texture on the water to link bumps. That is when he focuses on efficiency, holding foil glide and connecting little gusts without wasting motion. He calls it “quiet power,” which is funny coming from a demon with a wingspan that could block the sun.
When conditions line up, his favorite mission is upwind wing foiling with long carved angles, then turning down the line for downwind wing foiling runs that feel like controlled freefall across the surface.
Vrax's Code
- If you want control, start with posture. Power comes after position.
- A clean wing foil setup matters, even if your wing is built in.
- Do not fight gusts. Invite them, then direct them.
- Speed is earned through efficiency, not panic.
- Carve with intention. Wing foil carving is where style becomes control.
- If you fall, learn one thing and go again. Wing foil progression loves repetition.
- Respect the ocean, respect the crew, and never respect excuses.
Beginner Tips
Vrax's advice for any wing foil beginner is blunt, but it works.
- Start with a stable wing foil board and a setup that favors control over twitchy performance.
- Learn the basics of wing foil technique first: stance, balance, and keeping the board trimmed.
- Focus on riding both directions and managing height. Consistent foil glide is more important than flashy turns.
- Practice upwind wing foiling early. It keeps you out longer and builds confidence fast.
- Save wing foiling missions downwind for when you can reliably turn and return without stress.
- Use foil pumping sparingly. It should feel smooth and supportive, not desperate.
- If the wind is light, stay patient. Light wind wing foiling rewards clean movements and calm hands.
Vrax's final wing foil tips are always the same: stop forcing it. Let the wind do the work, and make your job about balance, timing, and the next clean line.
Preferred Ride
Vraxen's favorite sessions are wing foiling with no handheld wing at all, just his own built-in demon wings and a compact foil board that pops up fast. He runs a carvy front wing with enough glide to link bumps, a stiff mast for control, and yes, a leash, because even demons learn eventually. His setup is tuned for speed control, aggressive carving, and long, clean flights just above chop, with loud tropical boardshorts because intimidation is better with irony.
What Makes Him Vrax
Vraxen looks like trouble, and yeah, he is, but he's the fun kind, mischief with manners. He's confident without being loud, playful enough to laugh when you fall, then help you relaunch like it was his idea. He's competitive, loves a challenge, hates excuses, and respects effort. He'll roast you, then tow you back in if the wind dies.
He also has a built-in advantage most riders can't compete with. While others manage board, foil, and wing angle, Vrax adds attitude, and somehow it helps. He can depower instantly by folding or feathering his wings, invite gusts in and direct them, and “pump” once in a way that feels like a threat to physics.
Signature Move
The Ashwing Sweep: Vrax sets a wide heel-side arc, flares his wings like a cape, and slingshots upwind with a spray line that looks like punctuation across the chop.
