The Story Behind the Record

WSSRC’s 2021 bulletin documents Guy Bridge improving the around-Isle-of-Wight kitefoil mark that he had established in 2016. The record entry identifies the yacht as a Tarifa Foil Board with kite sail, gives the date as May 11, 2021, and lists a start at 10:35:55 UTC with a finish at 13:00:27 UTC.

The elapsed time was 2 hours, 24 minutes, and 32 seconds over the 50 nautical mile course, with an average speed of 20.76 knots. The bulletin explicitly names the previous record as Guy Bridge’s July 2016 performance, making this a tidy record progression within the same WSSRC line. The linked video documents the 2021 record ride and gives a useful visual companion to the official timing bulletin.

Rules of the Beast

The rider must complete the World Sailing Speed Record Council around Isle of Wight course while using a kite-powered hydrofoil board. Timing is elapsed time from the stated start to the stated finish. Lower time is better. Entries should use WSSRC records or a clearly sourced result that identifies the foil kitesurf board, rider, date, and elapsed time.
