The Story Behind the Record
Red Bull's May 7, 2018 report presented the Maui event as 'the world's first SUP foil race' and identified Connor Baxter as the winner on April 29, 2018. This row is intentionally kept distinct from Eric Terrien's 2017 race milestone. Terrien's entry reflects a public claim that he was the first person to race on a SUP foil inside a broader paddle race setting, while Red Bull framed the 2018 Maui event as a dedicated SUP foil race.
Rules of the Beast
First dedicated SUP foil race that a reputable event or media source explicitly presented as the world's first SUP foil race. This is tracked separately from earlier reports of an individual racing a SUP foil within a broader paddle race, so the series does not overwrite those earlier milestone claims.
How This Got the Nod
Red Bull article states both the event date and the firstness framing.
