The Epic Record Run

Rob Wylie and his son Morgan became the central names attached to the English Channel eFoil first. Media and Fliteboard posts report that they crossed one of the world's busiest shipping lanes on August 12, 2021 using Fliteboards and one battery charge. Reports differ slightly on direction and exact elapsed time, but they consistently describe a Channel crossing between France and the United Kingdom that was finished in under two hours, with Rob landing with only a small battery reserve remaining. The ride involved navigation, ships, currents, seaweed, and open-water variables, making it more than a battery test. It became one of the key early adventure milestones for eFoiling because it showed that production electric hydrofoils could complete an iconic sea crossing under their own power.

Rules of the Beast

The crossing must be completed on motorized eFoil boards across the English Channel. The riders may use safety boats and navigation support, but the ride itself must be completed under eFoil power without tow propulsion. The event counts as a first when the route and board type are publicly documented.

How This Got the Nod
