The Tale From the Foil Vault
Nazaré is not a normal eFoil playground. It is a giant-wave arena where timing, positioning, rescue craft, and rider judgment matter as much as the board. Fliteboard reported that in January 2022, Glyn Ovens and Tom Court became the first people to ride the giant waves of Nazaré on a Fliteboard. Foiling Magazine also framed the project as the biggest swell taken on with an electric foil. This is not a distance or speed record; it is a big-water eFoil first that belongs in the Foiling Freaks fun-firsts system because it marks a clear expansion of where motorized hydrofoil boards had been publicly ridden.
Rules of the Beast
The ride must take place on a motorized eFoil in the giant-wave environment at Nazaré, Portugal. The rider may use the eFoil motor to catch, position, or ride waves. Tow surfing, paddle-in surfing, wing foiling, and surf foiling without integrated electric propulsion do not qualify for this specific eFoil first.
