The Monster-Sized Story
Tonic Mag interviewed Oskar Johansson after his record session and reported that he stayed on foil at the same break for 2 hours, 46 minutes, and 19 seconds. Oskar said he had been thinking about the challenge since Adam Bennetts released his own mark and that he only decided the week before the attempt to have a crack at it. The article gives useful rules: no reverb or backwash to help the pump back out, no bouncing between two peaks, and no outside nutrition once the attempt begins. Oskar also described the practical realities of the ride, including short-period swell goals, tide limits, seaweed risk, and fatigue after the two-hour mark. Rules of the Beast
The timer starts when the rider rises onto foil from a prone or surf-foil wave start and stops when the rider falls, intentionally dismounts, or can no longer maintain foil flight. The rider may pump out and reconnect to waves, but must return under human pumping and wave energy only. No boat, kite, wing, paddle, motor, Foil Drive, eFoil propulsion, tow rope, shore assistance, or nutrition handed from another person may be used during the timed ride. Backwash, sidewash, or artificial reverb that creates a special unlimited conveyor-belt route should be declared separately.
