Bucklehorn Blue got his start in standup towed foiling the hard way: by finding a dusty vintage Sky Ski hydrofoil in an old lakeside shed and deciding it was a good idea to ride it. It was the old convertible kind, a Sky Ski standup hydrofoil setup that could switch from sitdown to standup, complete with snowboard boots and bindings that looked like they belonged in a garage museum. His first pull behind the boat was a disaster, but it was also the moment he got hooked.
After a few spectacular wipeouts, Bucklehorn kept coming back and learned the basics of tow foiling behind boat sessions: staying centered, reading the pull, and letting the foil lift naturally instead of forcing it. That old school towed foiling setup taught him balance and timing in a way modern gear never could. What started as a questionable ride on a convertible Sky Ski foil board turned into real progression, and soon he was linking clean runs on a standup foil board behind boat passes.
Now Bucklehorn rides modern gear for most of his boat tow foiling sessions, but he still gives credit to the vintage setup that started it all. He loves glassy mornings, clean wake foil boarding lines, and helping newer riders figure out their first stable glide on a boat foil board. His story is part comedy, part history lesson, and part reminder that progress in towed hydrofoil riding usually starts with a few rough passes and a lot of persistence.

Follow these tips when applying stickers: Apply the sticker to a clean, dust-free, oil-free, and moisture-free surface. After application, press the sticker down with a clean cloth to maximize the sticker’s ability to stick to the surface and avoid air bubbles. Make sure that the sticker is applied correctly the first time. With every reapplication, the sticker’s ability to stick will decrease. Apply the sticker to a flat surface only. If applied on items that bend, are round, or in a cylinder form, we can’t guarantee its ability to hold.
