Types of Foiling Lessons

Boat Wake Foiling Lessons

Learn the fundamentals behind the boat: stance, line management, controlled starts, board handling, and safe falls. Wake foiling is a great way to build foil confidence quickly because the boat provides steady power while you learn balance and lift with the use of a tow handle.

Dock Start / Pump Foiling Coaching

Want to learn dock starts (a.k.a. dockstarting) or improve your pump? We'll work on foot placement, timing, technique, and efficient pumping so you can get going cleanly and stay flying longer on flat water.

eFoil Lessons

eFoiling is a fast track to "first flight." We cover basic controls, safe speeds, turning, and how to avoid the most common beginner mistakes. If you're new to foiling, eFoiling can build the balance and feel that transfers to other foil sports.

Sit-Down Hydrofoiling Lessons (Sky Ski / Air Chair)

Prefer a seated setup? Sit-down foiling lessons focus on stable starts, body position, handle control, and smooth turns. It's a fun option for riders who want a different style of foil session behind the boat.

Service Area

Foiling Freaks lessons are offered in Redmond, Bellevue, Issaquah and surrounding areas on the Seattle Eastside. If you're nearby and not sure whether you're "in range," send a quick note through the Contact Us page.

Pricing

  • $200 per session (session runs about 1 to 2 hours once you include setup, safety talk, practice, and on-water coaching)
  • $300 per session if I travel to you within the service area (Redmond, Bellevue, Issaquah or nearby)

Foiling has a lot of "invisible time" (setup, fit, safety, and dialing-in gear). That's why sessions are priced per session instead of a strict stopwatch hour.

Season & Scheduling

  • Boat wake + sit-down: May through September
  • Dock start / pump + eFoil: May through September

We schedule around safe conditions: wind, chop, water temperature, daylight, and weather. If conditions aren't right, we'll reschedule instead of forcing a bad session.

Requirements & Limitations

Hydrofoiling involves balance, impact risk, and sharp equipment. There are age and weight limits (gear-dependent) and basic fitness / water comfort requirements. If you're unsure, inquire and I'll tell you what's realistic for your goals and the available gear.

How a Session Works

  1. Meet & plan: your goals, prior board-sports experience, and the best lesson type for today.
  2. Safety talk: how to fall, how to manage the foil, signals/communication, and safety rules.
  3. Gear setup: stance, sizing, board/foil basics, and what each adjustment changes.
  4. Practice: drills to build the right movement patterns before we add speed.
  5. On-water coaching: progress in small steps so you get real wins.

FAQ

What should I bring?

Wear clothing appropriate for the water temperature. Bring a towel, warm layers for after, water, and sunscreen on sunny days. If you already have a helmet, PFD/impact vest, wetsuit, or booties, bring them - otherwise we'll talk about what's recommended for your lesson type.

What should I expect in the first lesson?

Most first sessions focus on comfort, balance, and safe control - not instant pro mode. The goal is to get you flying safely (or noticeably closer) and to give you the proper technique so your subsequent sessions build fast. eFoiling is the easiest discipline, and you may see results on your first day. Behind the boat sometimes takes multiple sessions to get the feeling of your first flight. Dock starting is the most challenging discipline. We can get you started; however, it may take days, weeks, or months of practice on your own to unlock dock starting.

Do I need my own gear?

No. We can provide the gear. Which is why we need to know more about you and what you are looking for to make sure we have the appropriate gear. If you already own gear, we can often incorporate it - mention what you have when you reach out so we can plan.

How do we choose the right lesson type?

Tell me your goals (first flight, turns, pumping, behind-boat starts, etc.), your experience level, and where you want to ride (your spot vs a local meetup). We'll recommend the best match for conditions and season.

Policies & Safety Notes

Hydrofoiling has inherent risk (impact with water, board, foil, and equipment). Safety is non-negotiable. We will cover safe procedures at the start of every session, and we stop if conditions or behavior become unsafe.

Waiver

A waiver will be required before participating.

Weather & cancellations

If weather/water conditions aren't safe, we reschedule. If you need to cancel, please give as much notice as you can. We don't hold your feet to the fire if you need to bail.
